How Did We Do?

John M. Staub, 69, of Burlington died Friday, August 9, 2019 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Born January 29, 1950 in Burlington, Iowa he was the son of Leo Staub and Patricia Ann (Robinson Staub) McGoon. He married Mary K. Poggemiller on June 5, 1971 at St. John's Catholic Church in Burlington, Iowa.
He was a 1968 graduate of Burlington High School. He received his Bachelor of Hamburgerology from McDonalds Institute of Oak Brook, Illinois.
He worked at McDonalds for 11 years as manager, then worked as a beer distributor for several years. He owned and operated Mr. Convenient on Central & Division for 7 years, where he sold "the coldest beer in town". He then worked at Champion Spark Plug until his retirement.
He loved boating and enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and grandkids. John was always an avid storyteller (some family friendly, others not so much). Often times, Mary would send John to the store for 3 items and 3 hours later would return. He loved playing the Lottery (We apologize now to the Iowa Lottery for the dip in sales) and watching sports (Go Cubs and Hawkeyes, unless they were playing Iowa State, then go State!).
He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish.
He is survived by his wife Mary of Burlington; son Devin (Trish) Staub of Burlington; daughter Heather (Brad) Lange of West Burlington; grandchildren, Morgan and Sawyer Staub, Gracie, Parker, Gage Lange; nephew Eric Staub of Burlington; twin brother Joe (Joan Staub) of Burlington; Jeff (Kim) Staub of Burlington; Steve Staub of Des Moines; Kathryn (Chris) Kuhne of Plano, Texas; James (Gerri) McGoon of Cottelville, Mo; mother-in-law Zella Poggemiller of Burlington and several Nieces and Nephews.
He was preceded in death by his dad Leo and mother Pat.
The Memorial Service for Mr. Staub will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 14th at Lunning Chapel. The Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz will be officiating. Inurnment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13th at Lunning Chapel.
A memorial has been established for Iowa Donor Network.
Cremation has been accorded.

Some years ago John would buy his lottery tickets st my store. I'll never forget the story about a relative he would have to take on their errands because they "only could park by braille". He always had me laughing.

I first met John when I was 16 and it was a hit! "What are you, 12?!" "What are you, 70?!" His facial expression had us both laughing too hard! All the crap talking and evil laughs we have had over the years I'll cherish forever "old man"
