Robert Dean "Bob" Mason, 86, passed away peacefully at his home. Bob was born October 1st, 1932 in Winfield, Iowa to Roy and Genevieve Stebbins Mason. Bob married Patricia N. Wright on August 21, 1955, they had one son Robert "Rob" Mason. Bob later married Beverly A. Aden on June 2nd 1984.
Bob attended school in Winfield, Iowa. While attending Winfield High School, he help guide the varsity basketball team to the state tournament in 1949 and 1950. He then served in the United States Army and was stationed in Italy with the Military Police during the Korean Conflict. After he returned home from his service, Bob graduated from Iowa Wesleyan University in Mt Pleasant, Iowa. For 40 years and until his retirement, Bob worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, Iowa. In his younger days, he worked for his dad's painting business where he developed his knack for painting.
To know Bob was to love him. He possessed a resilient sense of humor in all situations. He was never shy to tell one of his countless stories that were cherished by many. He was always generous with his time in the help of others. Bob's greatest accomplishment was a devotion to his family and friends. He enjoyed countless hours of fishing and golfing with family and friends. He loved animals and especially dogs.
Bob is survived by his wife, Beverly; son Rob (Beverly) of Racine WI; Grandsons Jake (Tara) Mason of Ankeny, IA and Andrew (Amber) Mason of Burlington, IA; Granddaughter Elizabeth (Ryan) Frisicaro of West Des Moines; 6 great grandchildren, Gavin, Cambri, Adelyn and Lachlan Mason, Michael and Genevieve Frisicaro; sister Nancy Hummell of Cedar Rapids; sisters in law Shirley (Donnie) Dorothy, Fairfield, IA and Betty Davis of Wichita, KS; brother in laws Allen Heisel of Burlington, IA and William Ortmeyer of Cedar Rapids, IA; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends. He was proceeded in death by his parents, sister Patricia, and many beloved dogs.
Family will receive friends Sunday, December 2, 2018 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Lunning Chapel.
A private family service with military honors will be held on Monday, December 3, 2018 at Lunning Chapel.
According to his wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel. Inurnment will be in Winfield Scott Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Memorials have been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society and Great River Hospice.
