Biography

Elsie Anabelle Mitchell, 91, of Burlington died at 6:14 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2012, at Great River Medical Center.
Born September 19, 1920 in Blandinsville, Illinois she was the daughter of Elijah Monroe and Rosanna Susan (Duncan) Alley. She married Earl Grubb, he preceded her in death. She later married Edsel "Pete" Mitchell in 1976 in Idaho, he preceded her in death on January 23, 2001.
Elsie worked as a cashier for a grocery store, was a baker at Sterzing's Food Company and cooked at the Arion from 1958-1960. She was also a member of Heritage Baptist Church.
She loved to read recipe books and cook, especially making pies. She enjoyed shopping and in her later life she found a love for catalog shopping. Elsie gave unconditional love.
Survivors include four nieces, Shirley J. Haworth of Macomb, IL, Margaret A. Jones of La Harpe, IL, Judy Engen of Dallas City, IL, Ruthann Thomas of Seneca, South Carolina and one nephew, Richard Jones of Phoenix, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, four sisters, and five brothers.
A graveside service will be held at Aspen Grove Cemetery on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 2:15 p.m. The Rev. Brad Cranston will officiate. There will be a visitation in Lunning Chapel from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
A memorial has been established for the Heritage Baptist Church in Burlington, IA.
