Mrs. Gloria Marie Miller (Amma), 76, of Burlington died at 10:45 p.m. Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born May 1, 1937 in Rock Island, Illinois, she was the daughter of Jesse and Mary (Perez) Coronell. She married Kenneth Johnson, David Wakeland and Russ Miller.
Ms. Miller was a homemaker who devoted her life to her children and taking care of her son who suffered Hurler Syndrome. Ms. Miller later worked at Lamont Limited, Vista Bakery, was a member of the First Christian Church, but later attended church services of the St. Mary and St. Patrick Catholic Church at the Klein Center. She enjoyed gambling, playing bingo and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include four children, Cathi (Monte) Hawley of Mediapolis, Kenneth W. (Jane) Johnson of Dayton, Ohio, M. Cris (Bill) Ramsey of Burlington and G. Dory (Mike) Mann of New London; nine grandchildren; Monica (Matt) Eisenmann, Angie (Burt) Murphy, Eddy & Jamie Stout, Evan, Trey, and Shannon Ramsey and Alecia & Paige Seward; 13 great grandchildren, Madelaine, Lydia, Ethan, Naomi, Ashley, Matthew, Kylie, Mayson, Cameron, Kyler, Kinsley, Sydney and Tessa and two sisters, Stella Coronell of East Moline and Penny Coronell of Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Kevin Lee Wakeland; two brothers and one sister.
There will be no service or visitation. According to Ms. Miller's wishes, her body has been deeded to the University of Iowa, Dept. of Anatomy for medical research. The family is planning a private service at a later date.
