Richard “Dick” Leon Rogers, 64 of West Burlington died unexpectedly Saturday, April 29, 2006, at his residence.

Born February 23, 1942 in Greensburg, Missouri, he was the son of Earl E. and Margaret Elizabeth Slocum Rogers.  He married Sandra K. (Wolford) Johnson on June 2, 1962 in LaPlata, Missouri.

Dick was a 1960 graduate of Kirksville High School, Southeastern Community College in 1970 and Northeast Missouri State University in 1974.

He was a supervisor at Exide Battery for 15 years and a second shift supervisor at Champion for nine years, retiring in 2005.  He was a member of First Christian Church in West Burlington.

A complete optimist, he loved riding his Harley, “Ole Buck”, was a wonderful piano and guitar player, and enjoyed singing.  He loved all music, especially Country, was a NASCAR fan, especially Jeff Gordon, was a great storyteller, and was happiest when he was outdoors.  He liked to quail hunt and enjoyed traveling to the Black Hills.  He loved his daughter and grandchildren, and always loved and lived life to the fullest.

Survivors include one daughter, Tami Rogers (Mike Pollock) of Danville; special friend and companion, Karen Anderson of West Burlington; three grandchildren, Cody, Matt, and Jessy; one sister, Jenny (Richard Baughman) Murphy of Galesburg, Illinois; one brother, Clifton (Jill) Rogers of Kirksville, Missouri; one niece, Angela (Doug) Saus; three nephews, Lance (Lisa) Rogers, Kelly Rogers, and Lane (Angel) Rogers; and several great nieces and nephews.

A memorial has been established for his grandchildren’s education.
