Erma Antoinette Penrod, 60, of Morning Sun, died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at
Morning Sun Care Center.
Born
February 22, 1948 in Galesburg, Illinois, she was the daughter of
Richard and Betty Feikert Bowman. She married Jim Pohlman and James
Penrod.
Ms.
Penrod worked as a cashier at Wal-mart for 13 years until her stroke in
1999.
She
attended New Life Family Center Church.
She had a very diversified life. Prior to her stroke at age 52, she
spent a lot of time dancing and singing karaoke, especially at Steve’s
Place and Jim Bob’s. She loved working in her back yard and collecting
bears. While at work at Wal-mart she was known for giving out hugs.
At Morning Sun Care Center, she loved bingo, singing and getting her
nails done. She was also the “Hat Lady”. She would go around to other
residents’ t visit and get some exercise.
She was tenacious in her fight for life overcoming one illness after
another. Her sister Dixie told her she was a cat with nine lives.
After her heart attack in February of this yeat, it seemed like she had
no more fight in her. We will miss her.
Survivors include two sons, Shane Pohlman of Mediapolis and Daniel
Oglesby of Iowa City; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; two
sisters, Dixie Winstead of Burlington and Marci Oglesby of Maquon,
Illinois; three brothers, Richard Oglesby of Lowell, William Bowman of
Burlington and Richard Oglesby Jr. of Maquon; and one step sister,
Shirley Penney.
