Erma Antoinette Penrod, 60, of Morning Sun, died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at Morning Sun Care Center.

Born February 22, 1948 in Galesburg, Illinois, she was the daughter of Richard and Betty Feikert Bowman.  She married Jim Pohlman and James Penrod.

Ms. Penrod worked as a cashier at Wal-mart for 13 years until her stroke in 1999.

She attended New Life Family Center Church.

She had a very diversified life.  Prior to her stroke at age 52, she spent a lot of time dancing and singing karaoke, especially at Steve’s Place and Jim Bob’s.  She loved working in her back yard and collecting bears.  While at work at Wal-mart she was known for giving out hugs.

At Morning Sun Care Center, she loved bingo, singing and getting her nails done.  She was also the “Hat Lady”.  She would go around to other residents’ t visit and get some exercise.

She was tenacious in her fight for life overcoming one illness after another.  Her sister Dixie told her she was a cat with nine lives.  After her heart attack in February of this yeat, it seemed like she had no more fight in her.  We will miss her.

Survivors include two sons, Shane Pohlman of Mediapolis and Daniel Oglesby of Iowa City; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; two sisters, Dixie Winstead of Burlington and Marci Oglesby of Maquon, Illinois; three brothers, Richard Oglesby of Lowell, William Bowman of Burlington and Richard Oglesby Jr. of Maquon; and one step sister, Shirley Penney.
