Fred K. Miller, 97, of Burlington, died at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, April 24,
2008, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born
November 25, 1910 in Breckenridge County, Kentucky, he was the son of
Wavie and Effie Hawkins Miller. He married Mildred Lyons in 1932,
they later divorced. On April 3, 1954, he married Lela Sliger Schmeiser in Kahoka, Missouri. She preceded him in death on May
9, 2007.
Mr.
Miller was a graduate of Alexis (Illinois) High School where he was the
quarterback of the football team and won many medals for track and
field. He was a quality control inspector at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant,
retiring in 1970.
Mr. Miller was of the Protestant faith. He was a member of Fraternal
Order of Eagles as a Golden Eagle. He participated with and was a
member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and enjoyed boating, bowling and
woodworking.
Survivors include one daughter, Peggy Strawhacker Powers of Fort Myers, Florida; one
stepdaughter, Susan Kenney of Burlington; one stepson, Stephen Schmeiser
of Asheville, North Carolina; 16 grandchildren and numerous great
grandchildren.
His
wife, son Fred Lyons Miller, parents, one brother, two sisters, and one
grandchild preceded him in death.
