Marguerite E. Jankowski, 94, of Burlington died at 7:44 p.m. Thursday,
April 17, 2008, at her home.
Born
July 1, 1913 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Arthur “Art” and
Esther Anderson Hartman. Her father was a pioneer aeronaut and aviator
and founder of Burlington Municipal Airport.
On June
12, 1935 she married Joseph P. Jankowski in Kahoka, Missouri. He
preceded her in death on May 14, 2001.
Mrs.
Jankowski attended Burlington Community Schools. She worked for the
Weather Bureau and Hartman Flying Service at Burlington Municipal
Airport, I.A.A.P., Leopold Desk Company, and was a cook at Gibby’s, Oak
Street School cafeteria and the Cook’s Store.
She was
of the Lutheran faith, helped with Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts and was a
past member of Cascade Boat Club.
Survivors include four children, Larry P. Jankowski of Burlington, Joan
Knotts of West Burlington, Dorothy Whitaker of Mediapolis and Joe A.
Jankowski of Burlington; nine grandchildren, Danny, Wade, Chad, Allen,
Corey, Nick, Randi, Jennifer and Tracey; five great grandchildren,
Delanie, Jesse, Cody, Peyton and Jake; one sister, Marilyn Eisenhart of
Sun City, Arizona and one brother, Paul Hartman of Waukee, Iowa.
Her
parents, husband, one sister, one brother and one grandchild preceded
her in death.
A
memorial has been established for Great River Hospice House.
