            Alice Emma Harris, 96, of West Burlington, Iowa died at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at Great River Medical Center.

            Born July 24, 1910 in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Jacob John and Flora Rolf Schlagel.  On August 20, 1932 she married Gerald R. Harris at her parents’ home in West Burlington.  He died August 16, 1983.

            Mrs. Harris was a 1929 graduate of Burlington High School.  She first worked at Northwestern Cabinet Company then for Airway Vacuum Company. 

Mrs. Harris was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ where she was the organist for over 40 years.  She was also part of the Women’s Fellowship Group and a member of the King’s Daughters.  Mrs. Harris was a 50-year member of Order of the Eastern Star – E.C. Blackmar Chapter.

            She enjoyed playing the piano, sewing, crocheting and traveling.  Her greatest love was her family.

            Survivors include one son, Robert (Betty) Harris of Charleston, South Carolina; one daughter, Myrna Kent of Elmhurst, Illinois; two grandchildren, Barbara Lee of Burlington and Michael Harris of Goose Creek, South Carolina; and one great-grandchild, Jacob John Graham.

            Her husband; one son, Gerald “Jerry” Harris; parents; and brother, Walter Schlagel, preceded her in death.
