Helen Irene Fillmore, 82, of Burlington died at 11:20 a.m. Sunday, October 19, 2008, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

           Born June 17, 1926 in Brighton, she was the daughter of Laton and Gladys Grant Schooley.  On June 9, 1946 she married Robert W. Fillmore in Brighton.   He preceded her in death on November 29, 2006.

            Mrs. Fillmore was the valedictorian of her Brighton High School graduating class.  She was a homemaker.  Prior to her marriage, she taught in rural schools in Washington County.

            Mrs. Fillmore was a member of First Christian Church  (Disciples) where she was Elder Emeritus.  She was Christian Women Fellowship past president and kitchen director for 25 years, past president and longtime secretary of Eagles Aerie 150 Auxiliary and also named to the Iowa Eagles Auxiliary Hall of Fame in 2002, and past chief of Pythian Sisters.

            Survivors include three sons, Kevin Fillmore of Plainfield, Indiana, Kirk Fillmore of Mediapolis and Kent Fillmore of Burlington; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Hendriks of Bowden, Alberta, Canada; and one brother, Stanley Schooley of Brighton.

            Her husband, parents and two brothers preceded her in death.
