Shirley
Ann Brunken, 71, of Burlington, died at 3:45
p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at her home.
Born March 24, 1934 in
Burlington, she was the daughter of Glenn Parks
and Lucille Ethel Robinson Mosena. On June 9,
1952 she married Donald Eugene Brunken in
Burlington. He died April 20, 1986.
Mrs. Brunken was a 1952 graduate
of Burlington High School and was president of
the Reunion Committee for class of 1952. She
was a seamstress at Today’s Modern Option and
also was the secretary/bookkeeper at Big River
Lumber Co. After her retirement she worked at
Wendy’s and Today’s Modern Option. She was a
member of Moose Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary,
Solo Singles Club, and a past member of Des
Moines County Riding Club and was a Girl Scout
leader. She loved to sew, make teddy bears,
paint birdhouses and enjoyed flowers.
Survivors include one daughter,
Shirley (David) Milford of Alabama; three sons,
Jeffrey (Nona) Brunken, Richard (Donna) Brunken,
and Michael (Diane) Brunken all of Burlington;
seven grandchildren, Chad Simmons, Sara Simmons,
Abby Brunken, Gabriel Brunken, Jade Gnann,
Zachary Brunken, and Travis Brunken; three great
grandchildren, Jacob Simmons, Courtney Brunken
and Ellie Brunken; three brothers, Tom Mosena of
Burlington, Dan Mosena of Minneapolis, Minnesota
and Robert Mosena of Fort Myers, Florida; two
sisters, Carolyn Brown of Minneapolis, Minnesota
and Mary Bernard of Lincoln, Nebraska.
Her husband, grandson Ryan, and
parents preceded her in death.
In lieu of
flowers, memorials have been established for the
Battered Women’s Shelter and Younghouse Family
Services.
