           John Eugene Bragg, Sr., 73, of rural Lomax, Illinois, died at 2:24 a.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2006, at Great River Medical Center.

            Born December 27, 1932 in Iowa City, he was the son of Fred Morris and Mae Bryant Bragg.  On December 29, 1953 he married Alice Irene Lennox in Terre Haute, Indiana.

            Mr. Bragg was a Marine veteran of the Korean War serving for six years and was a sergeant.  He worked as a mechanic and a truck driver for many years retiring in 1992.

            He was of the Nazarene faith and a member of Teamsters Union.  He loved his horses, hunting, fishing, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

            Survivors include his wife, Alice Irene Bragg of rural Lomax; three sons, John E. Bragg, Jr. and William “Bill” L. Bragg both of Burlington and Rodney A. Bragg of Earlham; three daughters, Roberta S. Ferguson of Burlington, Shawna L. Evans of Dallas City, Illinois and Tammy K. Grisham of Lomax; 19 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

            His parents; two brothers, Frank Bragg and Maynard Bragg; and three sisters, Helen Jaeger, Martha Ray and Cleda Cuppy preceded him in death.

            A memorial has been established.

            According to Mr. Bragg’s wishes, his body will be cremated following the funeral service.
