Edith F. Boughton, 87, of
West Burlington, Iowa died Friday, May 11, 2007 at the Great River
Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.
Born May 26, 1919 on a farm home in
West Point, Iowa, she was the daughter of Harvey John and Clara Koller
Raid. She married John H. Boughton Sr. January 12, 1946 in Donnellson,
Iowa. He died June 30, 1993.
She attended school in Donnellson
until grade 11 and in 1936 graduated from Fairfield High School. She
was also a graduate of Iowa Weslyan College. Mrs. Boughton taught
school for 32 years. She began her teaching career in a one- room
schoolhouse near Donnellson and continued teaching for 23 years with
the West Burlington Elementary and Middle Schools, retiring in 1981.
She taught reading and tutored after she retired. She received the
volunteer award from Governor Terry Brandstad. She was a member of the
Iowa Association of School Personnel and the National Education
Association.
She was baptized in Zion Mennonite
Church and was a 50-year member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in
West Burlington.
She was consistent in
sending out many greeting cards to friends and family and she enjoyed
making and collecting miniature dollhouses.
Survivors include her two sons, John
(Betty) Boughton Jr. of Burlington, and Lee Boughton of West Burlington;
four grandchildren, Shawn Boughton, Charolette Yaunk, Tasha Boughton and
Timothy Tanner; five great grandchildren, Clara Boughton, Lauren Tanner,
Chase Tanner, Hunter Tanner and Parker Boughton; one brother Melvin Raid
of Burlington, and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents, husband, a son
Thomas, and three brothers Wilton, Arlo, and Howard preceded her in
death.
