Mary Badami, 56, of Burlington passed away Sunday, October 19, 2008, at
Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Mary
Badami, June 15, 1952 born to Gilbert and Bonnie Persinger of Smithland,
Iowa.
Mary was the beloved wife of Peter
Badami and mother to Stephanie Badami of Iowa City and Adam Badami of
Burlington. She also leaves behind one sister, Jane Gettis, Jane’s
husband Randy, and their children Ben and Sarah. Mary felt her greatest
personal accomplishment was being a mom to Adam and Stephanie.
Mary
lived her life with love and compassion at the core of her heart. She
was an educator and taught over the course of her career in Bloomfield,
Dallas City, West Burlington, and Burlington. Mary truly valued the
opportunity to touch the hearts and minds of community youth through her
service as a librarian at Burlington High School.
Mary
loved birds, flowers, and any activity that involved being outside. She
loved planning annual family vacations. Her husband and children feel
so blessed for these trips; they will cherish the memories of time spent
together for the rest of their lives.
Mary was
a proud member of a ladies’ group who would join together monthly to
share a simple meal and celebrate birthdays with a tradition of gifting
money to a selected charity instead of buying birthday presents. She
loved being with her dear friends and this was one of her prized monthly
events. Following in this spirit, those who may consider sending
flowers are asked to consider a memorial donation to Holt International
Children’s Service, Great River Hospice House, or Burlington Public
Library.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 22nd, from 11:00 a.m.
until 7:00 p.m. in Lunning Chapel.
The
funeral service for Mary Badami will be Wednesday, October 22nd,
at 7:00 p.m. in Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Patrick Hilgendorf
officiating.
According to Mary’s wishes, her body will be cremated following the
funeral service.
