      Lunning Chapel.
     -Funeral Service: Thursday, June 28th, in the First Church of the Nazarene
      The Reverend Leland D. Watkins will officiate.
      -Interment: Long Creek Cemetery, rural Danville, Iowa
      A memorial has been established for the First Church of the Nazarene

  
          Alice Gertrude Akey, 97, of Burlington, Iowa died Sunday, June 24, 2007 at Danville Care Center, Danville, Iowa.

            Born April 28, 1910 at her farm home in Keosauqua, Iowa, she was the daughter of Charles and Mary Akey.

            Ms. Akey graduated from Keosauqua High School.  After high school she taught country school for two years making 20 dollars a month.  She worked as a cook at the Burlington Hospital for 22 years, the YWCA, then at the King’s Daughters Home for 21 years until about 1992.   She enjoyed crocheting, doing cross-stitch and needlepoint.  She enjoyed the children in her life the most.  She was a big Iowa Hawkeye fan.  She was a faithful member of the First Church of the Nazarene for over 55 years.  She was involved in the Nazarene International Missions and was the Missionary president for many years.

            Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including caregivers, Kathleen Loose and Danny and Linda Watkins, both of Danville, Iowa; great nieces and nephews; and great great nieces and nephews.

            Her parents, three brothers, and two sisters preceded Ms. Akey in death.
