The annual Lunning Chapel Memorial Tree Planting will be held on Sunday, April 22, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Danqwardt Park entrance off of Madison Ave. We invite you to join us in this Earth Day celebration of renewal and hope, and give you the opportunity to permanently memorialize your loved ones. The Compassionate Friends invite you to join us on December 9, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at Pzazz Resort Complex/ Huckleberry Hall-Room C (Across from Hachi Grille) 3001 Winegard Dr., Burlington, Iowa for the local chapters participation in the Worldwide Candle Lighting.

The Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting unites family and friends around the globe in lighting candles for one hour to honor and remember children who have died at any age from any cause.

As candles are lit at 7:00 p.m. local time, creating a virtual wave of light, hundreds of thousands of persons commemorate and honor the memory of beloved children in a way that transends all ethnic, cultural, religious, and political boudaries.

Now believed to be the largest mass candle lighting on the globe, the Worldwide Candle Lighting, a gift to the bereavement community from the Compassionate Friends, creates a virtual 24 hour wave of light as it moves from time zone to time zone. Hundreds of formal candle lighting events are held annually and thousands of informal candle lightings are conducted in homes as families gather in quiet remembrance of children who have died, but will never be forgotten.

Upcoming Holiday Memorial Service

The annual Lunning Chapel Holiday Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2012 in Lunning Chapel.

Please feel free to join us for a time of reflection, a time of memory, and a time of peace for all of those remembering lost loved ones during this holiday season.

All families will receive a personalized ornament and are welcome to stay for a time of fellowship and refreshments following the service. Personal invitations will be sent to the families we have served this past year, however this event is open to the public and all are encouraged and welcome to attend.

Guardians of Women Cancer Event

The “Guardians of Women Cancer” National Tour of “Pink Heals-Pink Fire Trucks” will be in the City of West Burlington on Thursday, August 16, 2012. The tour will be making home visits across the community for patients that cannot attend the rally. They will have the opportunity to sign the pink trucks and have their photographs taken as well as family and friends. The tour will be visiting other facilities as scheduled throughout the community.

The event will be held at the Community Park, 602 W. Burlington Avenue in West Burlington from 4-8 p.m. There will be health screenings, sports activities, food and beverages during the event. The parade starts at 3:45 p.m. that will travel through town and will arrive at Community Park at 4:00 p.m., many neighboring fire departments will also be involved. The national group will honor all cancer survivors in attendance as well as any individuals that are currently under treatment. Come sign the pink fire trucks with your message and read others from across the country, and feel free to take some pictures with the pink heals fire fighters.

Cancer knows no boundaries; it has affected all of us either by a family member, neighbor, or good friend. Please make a donation in memory of someone special or donate to the rally. Either way helps us in the fight and supports the families in our communities. The year donations will go to:” Bras for the Cause” which provides mammograms and follow up care if needed at no cost to the patients that may not otherwise be able to afford testing.
